If this happened to you, check Changing Your Riot ID to see what you can do (like keeping your game name!) and can't do (like using the original server tagline, eg. NA1, EUW1, etc). In order for the code to work, we need to know who you are—which means downloading and logging into Riot Mobile.

Getting Riot Mobile

The simplest way to get Riot Mobile is to go into your digital store (Google Play or the App Store) and look up "Riot Mobile," or to scan the in-client QR code. You can also click either of the links in the previous sentence to go straight to that storefront. It's free to download and use and even has a bunch of other features, so it's worth taking a look even when you're not trying to connect to the client.
